FOF is a fix for homelessness. Its not just distributing food and clothes to people in need but also provides an opportunity to gain the confidence and necessary resources to become a self sustaining individual in the society.

I believe the working model/principle on which FOF is built. It requires the individuals involved to feel accountability, responsibility, respect and hard work to become a self sustaining individual. The execution of the program is so practical and simple. I like the brutal commitment and honesty of the organizers. The fact that FOF is operating without government's aid is amazing and it shows the commitment of the organizers towards the cause they believe in.

Each and every feeding I attended is so special and inspiring. The way people like Paul, Deborah, Rebel Stevens transitioned from homelessness is truly inspiring . Thank you for sharing your stories with the volunteers.

Foot on Foot is my chance to finally wake up and start moving in the right direction.  I've seen pain in the world and wanted to help but years passed and I did nothing. I thought I needed to get my own act together before could I start helping others. Finally, I realized it might be awhile until my own life is perfect.  Few of us ever get it together completely so we can't use that as an excuse.  The next obstacle was not knowing where to begin. I would walk past a homeless person and realize there is potential to turn a life around. Then, not knowing what to do, I kept walking and felt sad. Handing out money won't change a person's life and any bigger plans can't be done by one person. Finally, I reached the point where I stopped trying to figure it out myself and to stop making excuses. For me, getting started was the hardest part, but the program is making the rest easy.

Maybe all acts of kindness are ultimately selfish but it doesn't matter. It matters more that you actually get out there and do something.  A bonus is that the program shows me the potential in my own life. The homeless  that get involved in the work program are like me. They are in one place in life and want to get to another. If they can get between two points, why can't any of us?

Food on Foot really opened my heart to the struggles that people must face each day. It was a humbling experience to see these men and women, who have nothing, trying so hard to pull themselves up, to better themselves, and to re-enter the work force. It made me realize that we are all the same, it is only the cards we are dealt that are different.

What is I like most about Food on Foot is interacting with the people, looking them in the eye and realizing that even though we may shun them when we see them on the streets, they are just people like you or I.

The first feeding I attended, I was given the job of passing out McDonald gift certificates to the participants. The smiles on their faces, and their genuine thrill at receiving a gift , albeit small, sent shivers through me. There was no malice, no anger, no "why me" in their eyes, simply joy at being recognized for a job well done and a sense of pride in themselves that has obviously been dormant for a very long time.
