Food on foot proves to me that tikkum olam really exists (improving the world--a jewish mitzvah) and I think its great that in this huge and impersonal city there really are people who care. Unfortunately though, in this big city there are too many people who need help. But I love this kind of help because it's positive help: it is giving more than just one fish, it is teaching the people how to fish so they can survive on their own beyond food on foot. My saddest moment at a feeding was Christmas time when too many families (with little kids) were homeless… My kids' favorite moment was when the elder gentleman (age 106) sang silent night at Christmas time...they are still asking whether he is really 106. I also love that my kids "feel good" after helping others.
